During the Memorial Day weekend, the State Highway Patrol will be highly visible on Ohio’s roadways promoting traffic safety. 

As motorists travel this weekend, troopers are reminding drivers to utilize their safety belts and to be responsible by designating a sober driver.

Last year in Ohio, 15 fatal crashes killed 18 people during the Memorial Day weekend.

Of those fatalities, 6 crashes and 7 fatalities were OVI-related.

 

The Huron County Health Partners are once again sending out the Huron County Health Survey as a part of a community-wide health assessment process. 

Select households in Huron County will be randomly selected to participate.

Those randomly selected will first receive a notification letter in the mail from the Huron County Health Partners regarding the survey, with instructions to complete the survey online.

The main objective of the survey is to monitor the health of Huron County through the collection and analysis of data on a broad range of health topics in order to create a snapshot of the health of Huron County residents.

 

A Sandusky firefighter has resigned after allegedly stealing Pokemon trading cards. 

According to the Sandusky Register, 27-year-old Chase Green of Sandusky pleaded not guilty to theft after police reportedly received a theft complaint at a Perkins Township business on Route 250 last week.

Green resigned before he was scheduled for a disciplinary hearing.

 

Parades and special programs will fill the Memorial Day weekend.

The list includes…students from Avon Lake High School, visiting the Vietnam Veterans Memorial of Lorain County in Amherst.

Tomorrow evening, they’ll be reading the names of the 98 soldiers from Lorain County who died in the service of their country in the Vietnam War.

 

Memorial Day Weekend has arrived, with plenty to do! 

The Port Clinton Walleye Festival is now underway, while the Norwalk Strawberry festival begins today and Ohio Bike Week in Sandusky fires its engines with first day festivities today.

 

Help is on the way, to help the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office combat illegal drug activity.

The Sheriff’s Office is one of 44 agencies statewide, to receive an Ohio Drug Law Enforcement Grant.

In this case…nearly 120-thousand-dollars.

 

If you’re opening up a pool this holiday weekend…Lorain County Public Health wants you to do it the right way.

They’ve posted a list of reminders that include;

  • Keeping chemicals secure and away from children and pets
  • Following directions on product labels
  • And wearing protective gear when dealing with pool chemicals

According to the CDC, about 45-hundred Americans end up in the emergency room every year from pool-related chemical injuries.

 

The countdown is on, to the 97th National Spelling Bee in Washington D-C.

Competition begins Sunday for the top spellers in 7th and 8th grades.

Bridgette Smith of Durling Middle School in Sheffield will represent Lorain County.
