The apartment fire that killed an Elyria High School football coach last week has been ruled accidental by fire officials.

De’Van Bogard was 27.

The blaze took place early Tuesday morning on Washington Avenue in Elyria.

Before coaching at Elyria, Bogard was a star athlete at Cleveland Glenville High School and was a member of the football team at Ohio State.

A check of COVID-19 numbers…

Statewide, there were 2,500 new cases reported on Sunday, well below the 21-day rolling average of just under 5,100.

Guernsey County is east central Ohio has the highest rate per 100-thousand people.

Holmes County has the lowest rate.

Huron County had 16 new reported cases on Sunday.

Huron County Public Health has released their weekly COVID-19 report.

The case count was 198 for the reporting period of October 8th to October 14th, down from 224 the previous week.

The average age of cases in the county was 40.

All but one Huron County zip code are currently reporting cases, with the highest positivity rate in Norwalk.

In Vermilion…the Liberty Avenue bridge near the downtown area closes today for repairs.

The Ohio Department of Transportation expects the major east-west thoroughfare to be shut down for about 45 days.

Tonight, a committee of Avon Lake City Council is scheduled to hear a presentation on preliminary plans to build a new, larger fire station on Walker Road near Route 83.

The current, smaller facility was built more than 40 years ago.

This week, crews will be making repairs to a portion of Route 301 and Route 611…near the intersection…in Sheffield.

The Second Harvest Food Bank will be in Huron County today with their drive-thru mobile food pantry.

They’ll make a stop at Willard Parks and Rec on West Laurel Street from 3 to 5 pm.

Later this week, Ohio Turnpike engineers will begin their annual winter inspections of snow removal gear, with a stop in Amherst on Friday afternoon.

Statewide, the turnpike snowplows service nearly 14-hundred ‘lane’ miles, 31 interchanges and 14 service plazas.

Routine hydrant flushing begins today in Willard; both inside and outside of city limits.

Residents are asked to not wash their clothes during flushing, as staining may take place.

Flushing should wrap up by Thursday.

-The Cleveland Browns dropped to 3-3 on the season after a 37-14 loss to Arizona on Sunday. Arizona improved to 6-0.

-In NASCAR, Kyle Larson took home the checkered flag in the Cup Series Playoff race on Sunday at Texas.
