Police in Willard are investigating a suspected fatal stabbing that occurred Sunday night on Wessor Avenue.
44-year-old Javier Estrella Lopez is being charged in connection with the death of 45-year-old Margarita Roblero-Perez.
Authorities say that Lopez fled the scene after the incident and was later apprehended in Sandusky County following a pursuit that ended in a crash.
Lopez was transported to a Toledo hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Lopez’s condition is unknown.
Looking at COVID numbers…
63 new cases were reported in Huron County on Monday. The death toll in Huron County remains at 124 since the pandemic began.
The state reported 5,500 cases on Monday…just below the 21-day average.
Lorain County Public Health is reporting 875 active COVID cases…up from 814 a week ago…and up from only 10 on July 3rd.
No masks at Vermilion Schools…
Last night, the school board there voted 3 to 2 against a mask mandate that was introduced by Superintendent Phil Pempin in early August.
Tonight, COVID-19 will be the focus of a program at the University Hospitals fitness center in Avon.
Lorain County Public Health Deputy Director Mark Adams will speak at 6 pm.
The campaign kickoff is underway for the Norwalk Area United Fund.
In a letter in the Norwalk Reflector, United Fund Executive Director Carol Wheeler says that the goal for this year is $415,000; with the money going to fund 26 local programs.
On Monday, 3 Sandusky residents were honored with the city’s inaugural Volunteer of the Year award.
Jackie “Mama” Collins and Jimm Corso were presented posthumously to members of their family, with Chuck Lococo also receiving the award.
Lorain County Public Health will be in LaGrange tonight, spraying for mosquitoes.
They say, the spray is NOT harmful to people, pets nor plants.
A road closure in Huron County…
Route 162 is closed in 2 locations…just east of Rome Greenwich Road and…just west of Greenwich Milan Townline Road…due to culvert replacements.
Work is expected to be complete on September 24th.
Today, Gulf Road from Burns to Crestview in Elyria will be closed from 8 am until 5 pm, so crews can stabilize the berm.
Detour signs will be posted.
