A hero returned home on Wednesday …

The remains of United States Navy Fleet Marine Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class, 22-year-old Max Soviak of Berlin Heights, were brought Wednesday morning from Cleveland Hopkins Airport to Morman-Hinman-Tanner Funeral Home in Berlin Heights.

A procession transported Soviak through Milan and Berlin Heights as thousands lined the streets.

Calling hours for Soviak will be from 10 am to 8 pm on Sunday at the Edison Field House, while the funeral will take place Monday at 11 am at the Edison High School Football Stadium.


Looking at COVID figures…

Huron County saw 60 new cases and 6 new hospitalizations on Wednesday.

Statewide, 6,800 new cases were reported on Wednesday.


A mask mandate update in Huron County…

At Willard City Schools, face-coverings are now to be worn in buildings and buses in the district. .

Face masks are to be worn inside Norwalk City Hall until further notice, according to Norwalk Ohio


A Fremont man was sentenced to life in prison with possibility of parole in the stabbing death of a Sandusky Golden Corral employee in 2019.

19 Action News in Cleveland reports that 28-year-old Demetrius Hall will be eligible for parole in 33 years.

Hall was accused of stabbing 32-year-old Cevin Stanley of Sandusky to death outside of the restaurant following an argument.


Police in Avon Lake have released the names of the family who died this week in an apparent murder-suicide;

  • Jeffrey Hull was 40
  • Heidi Hull was 46
  • Their sons, Garrett, was 9, Grant was 6

Their bodies were found Tuesday in a home on English Run, between Route 83 and Jaycox.


The U-S Marshall’s Office is crediting a concerned citizen, in the arrest of a person the feds considered, ‘armed and dangerous’.

34-year-old Brian Gimenez was arrested Tuesday night at a service station in North Ridgeville after police received a tip.

Gimenez was last seen a few days ago, when he eluded police in Parma.


Firefighters in Carlisle Township are investigating why an attached garage went up in flames.

No injuries were reported from yesterday’s fire on Lakeview Drive in the Brentwood Lake development.


Willard is hosting their ‘Almost Friday – Picnic at the Plaza’ event this afternoon.

Residents are invited to pick up their favorite carry-out lunch special from a local Willard restaurant and come down to Doster Plaza for live music.

It runs from 11 am to 1 pm.


Tonight, it’s ‘Sub Zero with a Hero’ at Toft’s Dairy in Sandusky.

Residents are invited to join Sandusky Police and Fire Department members for some ice cream and conversation.

It’s scheduled for 5 to 7 pm


The Huron County Recovery Walk is planned for later this month.

The free event on September 25th from 10 am to 12 noon at Norwalk Vets Memorial Lake Park Shelter #1 is meant to bring hope to those struggling with addiction.

The walk is open to the public.

The event is being put on by the Huron County Board of Mental Health and Addiction Services.
