COVID-19 numbers are going in the wrong direction, and health officials expect things to get worse before they get better.

The CDC now considers 46 of Ohio’s 88 counties to have what they call, ‘substantial spread’.

The list includes; Lorain, Medina, Cuyahoga, Erie and Huron Counties.

The highest…or worst…percentage can be found in Ashland County.

Huron County Public Health has put a COVID-19 protocol into place.

Due to an uptick in cases, facial coverings are now required to enter their building, regardless of whether vaccinated or not.

Police in Elyria have issued a warrant for the arrest of a man from Lorain, in connection with a shooting death last week at Bailey’s Bar and Grill on West River.

Police are looking for 23-year-old Jajuan Malone.

Another suspect in the shooting of Caree Cannon…20-year-old Ronald Johnson of Elyria…is being held in the Lorain County Jail.

During the month of August, the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Department will have extra patrol on the roadways.

Overtime shifts will be used to help promote safety among drivers as well as focus on the national mobilization for the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.

It’s being paid for through a state grant.

The “Stuff the Bus” school supply collection drive for Norwalk City and Catholic Schools is fast approaching.

You can drop off supplies this Friday from 7:30 am to 4 pm at the Norwalk Schools Board of Education Office.

Distribution of the supplies will then occur next Thursday, August 12th from 6 to 8 pm at Norwalk Middle School for those parents who’ve registered.

Joe Pronesti has been named interim fire chief of the Elyria Fire Department.

Pronesti takes the place of former Chief Carl Mack, who submitted his retirement resignation letter in July.

He has been a firefighter since 1988 and will serve as interim chief through the end of this year.

Safety-Service Director Kevin Brubaker says, the Civil Service Commission will test for a new fire chief in the fall.

Construction crews are expected to return to North Ridgeville next week to repair work already done, for the so-called Center Ridge Road widening project, now in year 4.

According to the Chronicle Telegram, O-DOT says, pavement must be replaced at 3 intersections.

The event will feature over 80 construction, emergency, sport and utility vehicles on display; and also represents “America’s Night Out Against Crime”.

The fun runs from 4 to 7 pm at Battery Park and the Sandusky Bay Pavilion.
